Pay attention; Jesus is closer than you think-Luke 24

As we go about our daily walk with Jesus, we discover so much about Him through the reading of the scriptures and all that has been spoken about Him. However one of the key components of our faith, which is to know and recognize His presence, is sometimes missed.

This brings me to the story of Jesus’ resurrection and the encounter with some of the disciples on the road to Emmaus.

Luke 24:6-8 “He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words,” BUT you wonder if they did pay attention to His words?

Jesus can be so close to us and yet so far for many of us. Even though what was playing out here is what had been prophesied and repeatedly told to the disciples even by Jesus Himself.

Take note of this verse Luke 24:11 “but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.” So Peter had to go and check it out.

Now to the men on the road to Emmaus who walked with Jesus for seven miles, yet they did not recognise Him.

Luke 24:21 “But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.”

Sometimes we get fixated on what we expect and how we expect things, hence we miss the reality of the spoken word.

And Jesus had to rebuke them- Luke 24:25-26 “And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

Thank God for His grace which is still available to us today.

Jesus took time to open up their minds to understand the scriptures and had communion with them and the Bible says their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Luke 24:30-31 “When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.”

Here are a few points to note as Gatekeepers;

  1. We have to study the word of God, and pay particular attention to prophecies, so we have awareness when it does manifests.-2 Timothy 2:15
  2. Communion should be a regular and vital part of our devotion. The Bible admonishes us to do it as often as we can. It’s not surprising that it was in the breaking of bread (communion) that Jesus was revealed to the disciples.-Luke 24:30-31
  3. Pray without ceasing and stay plugged into His presence in order to see what He is doing and do likewise. John 5:19 “So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.

Remember, Jesus is much closer than you think

Have a glorious week!
