Wisdom of the Lepers

The Wisdom of the Lepers or 4 Wise Helpers!
2 Kings 7

Quite often we are waiting on God for so many things, breakthrough, illness, job, financial etc. and there are different groups of those who are waiting on God

1. Those that are lazy or slothful and use the Lord as the excuse for their passiveness or inactivity

2. Those that genuinely are waiting but have no clue about what to do next… (Describe waiting according to Isaiah 40:31-Waiting is ACTIVE and not Passive) “[31] but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

But the Lord said “Moses why do this people cry to me?  Tell them to go forward Exodus 14:15.  Enough of the waiting on God because God is waiting on you to go forward NOW!

There has been a famine in the land of Israel…..famine so bad that people have begun to eat their children 2 Kings 6:26-30 and this was the turning point that actually affected the King to the point that he taught it was Elisha the servant of the most high that actually put this curse upon the nation of Israel and demanded for the head of the prophet.

This was more than ordinary famine it was a “siege” upon a nation and the King believed this could only have been from the Lord and indeed it was from the Lord as we see in 2 Kings 8:1. (Poland-Warsaw-1939, Marienburg 1410, Danzig 1734, Jasna Gora-1635

However the word of the Lord came through the Prophet 2 Kings 7:1 and whenever there is a crisis or a major disaster in the nation the Lord sends a prophet in advance when change is about to occur, but there was a cynical officer like some of us today who despised the word of the Prophet because in his own logical mind it seems impossible for this officer to imagine how such an economic recovery could happen overnight, in the aftermath of such a terrible siege.

Be careful who you share a personal prophecy with for they might kill it…!

Will God hand out unexpected material blessings through the windows of his heavenly storehouse (cf. Ps 78:23-27; Mal 3:10)?  Yes is the answer!

To mock the prophetic word is to mock the Lord himself

The Lord does nothing without revealing it to his prophets-Amos 3:7-8 Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. [8] The lion has roared— who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken— who can but prophesy?

Why would anyone not believe Elisha? Ok we must check the resume of the Prophet but c’mon it’s Elisha we are talking about….!

However the 4 Lepers who were also at the Gate of Samaria and they believed the word of the Prophet and had to make a firm life changing decision ahead of the unbelievers…! 2 Kings 7:3-4  “[3] Now there were four men with leprosy* at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, “Why stay here until we die? [4] If we say, ‘We’ll go into the city’—the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.”

Each turn speaks of death except the camp of the Syrians and that in itself is that this is still an indeterminate option which they were willing to take, which could also mean death depending on the mood of your enemies.  They seem to know the outcome of going to the city or remaining still at the Gate of Samaria….(waiting on the Lord as it were) but even the 3rd option open to them also to the possibility of death. ….. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.”

Esther…..if I perish I perish….bad enough you were not supposed to approach the King without invitation but even more deadly as he has just lost a war….!

Sometimes we have to make a decision that might seem difficult but in the end it is for our benefit if we take on the word of God which says The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  Deut 31:8

Remember everything stacks against the Lepers as they are not even meant to go into the city according to the law- Lev 13:46 “As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp”!

Lepers cannot go beyond the Gates of the city even then he has to announce that he/she is approaching and must have part of his mouth covered and announce his move towards people so they can avoid him/her and take another route.

They took a great risk as there was nothing else to lose and I believe firmly for the Bible to tell the story of these 4 Lepers then there is a lesson we are to learn from it!

The question is “How desperate are you?” “How hungry are you?” I ask myself the same question too!

Remember the blind Bartimaeus who on hearing that the Master healer was around kept on shouting much to the discomfort of everyone around and more so even the disciples who should have facilitated him to Jesus knowing his circumstance almost prevented him from receiving his miracle that day BUT  Bartimaeus was a desperate man who knew Jesus could change his life forever (Mark 10:46-52) and he refused to be shut down until he got the attention of Jesus who now called him and he received his healing!

In this instance the Lord has actually gone ahead and prepared the ground for the fulfillment of the prophecy 2 Kings 7:6-7 “for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!” [7] So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.”

How would you ever know the Lord had done this if you remained in the same position?  I have come to announce to you that it’s time to go over in faith…if you stay here you die if you go you might die (notice might for you don’t even know)!

Why don’t you enjoy the adventure with God by stepping out…? I’m not guaranteeing anything other than God’s word but I’d rather take a chance on God’s word, believe his prophet and I make bold to say it’s more than a chance when the bet is on the Lord! Always a sure bet all the time! J

The good news is that the Lepers are not like the church these days and didn’t say we have to hoard this less another famine hits so we have something for the raining day but they actually went back to call everyone in the city to come and partake of the goodies…!

The word of the Lord came to pass v16 according to the prophet Elisha

The skeptical officer (2 Kings 7:19-20), ironically was stationed at the very gate at which he had anticipated seeing no trade, and is trampled in the scramble to acquire goods, thereby fulfilling Elisha’s prophecy.

The Shunammite woman also returned back to the land and the King restored everything and all the income that would have been due for her land over the 7 years of famine (7 years is the proper time of restoration according to Jewish law- Deut 15:1), which means no loss at all……restoration was as if there was no famine!!!

When God restores it is not done in half measures, it is full and complete

Psalm 126:1-3 “[126:1] When the LORD restored the fortunes of* Zion, we were like those who dreamed.*[2] Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” [3] The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Pray/Prophesy on everything the enemy has stolen and every famine in whatever form is now over and therefore declare a restoration as if it never happened!

Get ready for the time of favour is NOW!
